Aquamarine – Week 11 -Sandy @ SCJJewelryDesign

While I’m not necessarily taking the YOJ themes in the right week, I am trying when inspired to use them. I’ve had this lovely Aquamarine cab for about a year and think it’s much too pretty to keep in a box. I struggled with several pendant designs and all of them seemed to take attention […]

Poppies – Week10 Sandy @ SCJJewelryDesign

Off theme again (I’m working on an aquamarine piece, but it isn’t finished yet) so I’ll show you the piece I finished this week. It’s a poppy jasper focal stone, with a carnelian accent. A few years ago, I did alot of Viking Knit and had a necklace that has been unused since I made […]

Lilacs and Roses – Week 9 – Sandy@ SCJJewelryDesign

I’m using last weeks’ theme of “violet” this week, but inspiration isn’t always on time. 2 bezel-set holley blue chalcedony stones, accented with 2 tube-set lavender cz’s and my sterling silver rosettes, made with scalloped bezel wire. More photos here on my etsy site.

week 31 – Abigail Miller – torched bronze spirals

Literally scorched – the color was developed with a torch. A clumsy, coarsed-flamed plumber’s torch – now I have one of those cute little pinpoint butane numbers, and I have to try it some more and see if I  can get patterns or just a mess. Figuratively scorched – these were made early in the […]

Week 39 – Abigail Miller – Blues

Hello, hello, I’m not dead! And actually, going over what I have on Etsy and in the local gallery that has some of my work, I’ve done considerably over the one piece per week since you last saw me in February when it was 9°F – brrrrrrr – but it sure was not in a […]

Wk 35: A Fragile Immortality by Dearrings

Wk 35: A Fragile Immortality by Dearrings

So, not quite a favourite poem because I couldn’t pick just one :) Instead I was inspired by what I love about REAL books: paper, ink, treasures in the pages, memories scribbled in the margins, the feel of a leather or cloth bound book, the weight of knowledge in my hands. The neat thing about […]

The Legend Of Icarus by Dearrings

The Legend Of Icarus by Dearrings

Still catching up :) This is my piece for the Scorched theme. Its based on the legend of Icarus. For those who don’t know, Icarus and his father Dedalus ( an inventor) were exiled on an island. Dedalus fashioned wings out of feathers and wax so he and Icarus could escape. But Icarus disobeyed his […]

Love Triangle – Week 26 by Sandy @ SCJJewelryDesign

Oh oh, I’m behind on my postings. I’ll try to get caught up quickly here. Week 26 was ‘fun with patinas’. I recently created this labradorite pendant with lots of texture and LOS on the lowest areas to accentuate the different depths. It’s in my etsy shop here: http://www.etsy.com/listing/79929272/love-triangle-modern-minimalist

A Day at the Beach – Week 25 – Sandy @ SCJJewelryDesign

Imagine a day at the beach. That day would include a beautiful blue sky, tranquil turquoise water, warm bronze sun, sand and maybe even a found sea fossil or two. It’s all depicted here in this pendant. Focal stone is Easter Blue Mine turquoise.  Accents are bronze.  Backplate and bezel are silver.  More information and […]

YOJ 2011-Week 24-Something for Dad-Carol Ladine

Looks like I’m on a ring kick. Since both our dad’s are no longer with us I made this Black Onyx and Sterling ring for my hubby to honor him on Fathers Day.

YOJ 2011-Week 23-Recycled-Carol Ladine

Not exactly recycled but this vintage carved Italian shell cameo does hail from the 1930’s or 1940’s and I took it from unset to set (hehe). It’s the smallest cameo I’ve ever tried to set at 10x14mm. The metal including the small beads is 14k Rolled Gold.

One Bracelet = 4 Pr Earrings – Week 23 – Sandy @ SCJJewelryDesign

In keeping with this week’s theme, these earrings began life as a wide copper cuff bracelet.  I originally made the bracelet in a jewelry class, using a rolling mill and a piece of Mylar netting to create the texture.  The netting was rolled onto the copper twice – in opposite directions which gave it that wavy […]

YOJ 2011 – Week 22 – Music – Carol Ladine

It’s been a busy week so took the easy way out and completed a pair of treble clef earrings. Used square copper with a vintage crystal absconded from an old necklace that had been my Mom’s. Darkened just slightly and added pre-made ear wires.

Serenity – Week 20 – Sandy @ SCJJewelryDesign

I’m 2 weeks behind as I took a little vacation with my daughter.  I’ll be caught up by the end of the week. Yesterday I made this pendant.  I call it “Serenity”, both for the feeling the color of the stone evokes, and because I just came back from a nice relaxing vacation.  It’s a […]

YOJ 2011, Week 19, The Nimble Sprite, Round ‘n Round Bracelet

This took me longer than it should have. I’ve been trying some experiments for projects to go into a book I’m writing in my head. These beads are a result of one such experiment. What I was trying to do with a particular tool really didn’t work, but the beads are still pretty cool. They […]
